Tesla

Tesla, Inc. is an American multinational automotive and clean energy company headquartered in Austin, Texas. Founded in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, and named after inventor Nikola Tesla, the company is led by CEO Elon Musk. Tesla designs and manufactures electric vehicles (cars and trucks), battery energy storage from home to grid-scale, solar panels and solar roof tiles, and related products and services.

Tesla's mission is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. The company's first vehicle, the Roadster (2008), was the first highway-legal all-electric car to use lithium-ion battery cells. Tesla's Model S (2012), Model X (2015), Model 3 (2017), and Model Y (2020) have made electric vehicles mainstream, with the Model 3 becoming the world's best-selling electric car.

Tesla is known for its technological innovations including over-the-air software updates, Autopilot (advanced driver-assistance system), and the Gigafactory concept for mass battery production. The company also develops energy storage products (Powerwall, Powerpack, Megapack) and solar energy generation systems.
